dc.description.abstract Modem society demands that university graduates have a practical and global perspective about science and technology. Citizens of the world must not only learn to value but also to appreciate and celebrate the contribution of science to development in all spheres of human life. Today, Science and Technology are considered prerequisites to development. They have become recognised as stimuli for economic growth and development. This has been made possible by creation of scientific and technological culture mainly by establishment of need-tailored scientific and technological institutions. In line with the University's Mission, the Department of Applied Biology aims at promoting the discovery and application of scientific knowledge in a manner which prepares the students to contribute effectively, intellectually and ethically as citizens of a dynamic scientific world. The programme main objective is to inculcate Science culture both in the student and Kenyan society. The challenge is to establish such a base in response to the practical needs of development since Science is one of the most productive systems created by Man. Applied science creates wealth and eliminates poverty. Graduates find placement in medical, research and educational institutions besides being prepared for self-employment. en_US
