Abstract:
The goal of the Bachelor of Education and Counselling degree is to train competent Educators and Counsellors to work in schools, colleges and other institutions in Kenya and in the world at large. The prospective educator/counsellor is expected to influence the society with positive moral and spiritual values. Furthermore the programme prepares students for chaplaincy and counselling positions.
In line with the University's mission, the Department of Education and Counselling aims at training leaders to play their part in society, by equipping them with knowledge and skills on the ways in which they can meet the challenges facing individuals and. communities. The way forward is to train leaders who are skilled in the disciplines and methods of Education so that they can help persons of all ages to effectively, face and apply their faith and talents to the challenges of daily life. The breakdown of many traditional, social structures and the resultant stresses and anxieties are leading to individual and family crises. The resulting challenges to the society will be considerable thus trained counsellors will be required to provide help and guidance needed.
The main objective of the programme, therefore is to train men and women who can be relied upon to effectively educate and counsel members of communities in Kenya and internationally.
