Abstract:
KeMU has been offering Bachelor of Education and counselling (science) degree since the inception of the University. The main thrust for the degree was to ensure that the graduating teachers are competent in both education and counselling. However, under this arrangement, the graduates have expressed their serious need to be more grounded not only in education but also in subject areas. In order to facilitate this, the University has considered the graduates need and has therefore introduced a degree programme that is entrenched in humanities. The purpose of the B.Ed (science) degree is to enhance the knowledge of the student in order to meet the demands of the emerging challenges of teaching sciences in educational institutions in Kenya. The programme also offers an opportunity for practising teachers to upgrade their education and become leaders in secondary and tertiary education. Its strong tradition of entrenchment of education guidance and counselling courses makes it unique from B.Ed (science) programmes offered in other universities in Kenya.
