Abstract:
Kemu has been offering a B.Ed and Counselling degree for the last 9 years. The main thrust for the degree was to ensure that the graduating teachers are competent in both Education and counselling. However, under this arrangement, the graduates have expressed their serious need
to be more grounded not only in Education but also in subject areas. In
order to facilitate this, the university has considered the graduate needs and has therefore introduced a degree programme that is entrenched in humanities. The purpose of B.Ed (Arts) degree is to enhance the knowledge of the student in order to meet the demands of the emerging challenges of Languages and Humanities for secondary education in Kenya. The programme also offers an opportunity for practicing teachers
to upgrade their Education and become leaders in secondary and tertiary education. Its tradition of entrenchment of education, guidance and counselling courses makes it unique from B.Ed (Arts) programmes offered in other universities in Kenya.
