Kisii University started in 1965 as Kisii Primary Teachers College. In 1983 it was upgraded to a Secondary Teachers' College offering Diploma Programmes. The Government of Kenya mandated Egerton University to take over the College as its campus in 1994. On 23rd August 2007, Kisii University College was established through a Government Legal Notice No.163 of 2007 as a Constituent College of Egerton University. It is situated approximately 2km from Kisii Town Centre, off the Kisii - Kilgoris Road.
The Commission inspected the College in March 2011 and has followed up on the implementation of the recommendations given then. The Commission for University Education was satisfied with the progress the institution had made and recommended that Kisii University College be upgraded to become Kisii University. |
