Accreditation report

Abstract

Kabianga University College is situated in the tea-growing highlands of Kericho West District, Kericho County, in the Southern end of the Rift Valley Region. It is 26km from Kericho Town and 6km off the main Kericho - Kisii road. It occupies the grounds formerly held by Kabianga Agricultural Training Centre. The Kabianga Campus, then a Campus of Moi University, was officially decreed and launched by His Excellency the President in May, 2007. The Campus, took over the mandate of its successor, Kabianga Farmers Training of Community Outreach and extension services. The Campus was elevated to a Constituent University College of Moi University by the Kabianga University College Order in a Gazette Notice No. 77 of May, 2009. The University College Council was inaugurated in October, 2009. The Legal Notice also established the governance structures. These governance structures include the Management Board, The Academic Board, and School Boards. As a Constituent College, the University College is answerable to Moi University Senate on Academic Matters. The Commission for University Education has evaluated the draft Charter submitted by the University College and found it satisfactory.

The Commission conducted a final inspection of the institution in June 2011 and evaluated its Governance organs, its Academic Programmes and its Academic Resources and was satisfied with the progress the institution had made. The Commission recommended that Kabianga be awarded a Charter to become the Kabianga University. The University was requested to quickly implement the recommendations contained in the accreditation Report.
